Massage is the practice of applying structured or unstructured pressure, tension, motion or vibration to soft tissues of the body including muscles, connective tissue, tendons, ligaments and lymphatic vessels to achieve a beneficial response.

Communication between therapist and client is important for a successful massage.  The client and therapist should discuss the intention of the massage, areas to be massaged and areas to be avoided, and the amount of pressure that is comfortable for the client.  The client’s medical history and current physical condition should also be discussed.
